Every girl needs some pearl earrings –  and I was so pleased with how these turned out that I almost kept them for myself!  Surrounded by the sea in the Isle of Skye, I took the inspiration for this design from walks on the beach, and the patterns left in the sand as the waves recede. Strongly associated with the moon and tides, pearls were once believed to be the result of a drop of rain permeating the shell of an oyster. These earrings feature pastel toned natural freshwater cultures pearls on a bed of hallmarked handcrafted sterling silver.

Timeless and classic, they are finished with fancy sterling silver head pins and sterling silver ear wires. Drop length 3cm

As with each of my handcrafted pieces, these earrings started life as silver clay. This was textured, shaped, cut and drilled. After drying and sanding the clay was fired, and in the kiln the binder in the clay is burned away to reveal the silver. Once I was happy with the finish, they were hallmarked at Edinburgh Assay Office and then given a patina to enhance the texture.
