Inspiration for Design
The mid nineteenth century, saw the boom of the herring Industry.
There was in the region of forty five curing stations in Castlebay working with 400 boats
The Marriage lines Shawl is knitted in an earth colour with silver representing the fleet to shore relationship.
The lines are close together going up and down across the shawl, symbolizing the two lives facing those involved in the herring industry.
This garment measures 1 meter 95 cm in lenght and 60cm width.
