Eriskay Pony toorie

Eriskay Pony toorie

The Eriskay Pony toorie/beanie is designed around the natural habitat of the Eriskay Pony on the island of Eriskay. All proceeds go towards Comann Each nan Eilean (eriskaypony.scot) for the preservation of this rare and unique breed.

The two shades of blue copy the various turquoise shades of the sea which gets lighter as it reaches the white and pale yellow of the sand. The pink signifies the convolvulus flower whose first seed is said to have fallen out of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s pocket when he first set foot on Scottish soil on Eriskay.
The green shades signify the grasses of the common grazings where the ponies roam through the winter. The green grows deeper, and with a scattering of purple heather, as it reaches towards Ben Scrien where the ponies spend summer months – allowing crops like potatoes to grow in the township below.
The crown of the hat has a motif symbolising the sun.
