About Soroby Beach

I'm Jules. I began knitting to pass the four hour ferry time to my Hebridean island home and also because all my stuff was in storage and I needed a winter jumper! I wasn’t new to knitting - my Mum and Granny taught me a long time ago - but I hadn’t given it any thought or time for many years. The first sleeveless jumper, knitted with alternate stripes of Blue-faced Leicester and Jacob sheep wool, ended up going home to London with a friend who admired it. My cousin’s wife commissioned “one like that but in yellow please” and her neighbour admired it and wanted a dark green one, with sleeves please! So it went….and one year later I still don’t have one for myself! I hand knit all the pieces myself, and where and when I knit them feels like it might add a bit of 'terroir', so I write that on the label. A lot of it is done when I’m travelling - island living requires time on boats, in planes...and in 'waiting' places. Even the coldest windiest beach has a nook or cranny for hunkering down into for a quick knit! If a wee bit of sand shakes out of your garment don’t be surprised ;~) and of course I knit at home by the fire. Find out more at https://sites.google.com/view/soroby-beach/about
