Gifts for knitters

In a twist about gifts for knitters? I’ll spin you a yarn…

Gifts for knitters might seem tricky – they are, after all, makers in their own right. Well, as a knitter myself I can tell you that we love nothing more than a new batch of gorgeous Scottish island yarn. Or how about an innovative knitting kit or gift bag filled with knitting goodies?

For some beautifully locally grown yarns, take a look at the following:

Coll Hebridean Wool, offers a sumptuous chocolate brown, Aran weight yarn, from homegrown Hebridean sheep on Coll. Balls of wool, plus other gifts for knitters (headbands, hats, rugs, even the full fleece) are available.

One happy purchaser’s comments say it all:

“Beautiful product which my wife can’t praise enough – l wanted to buy her some wool for her favourite hobby of knitting but not just any old regular commercial stuff. This has proved to be a fabulous buy…think she deliberately wants to run out of it so we have to order some more….l’m going to be wearing a very big but gorgeous feeling jumper!”

Meanwhile on neighbouring Tiree, gifts for knitters abound. The Angry Triangle (named after a ewe of that ilk) produces an array of homegrown yarns. Their pure Hebridean and Hebtex (Hebridean x Texel) flocks, give delicious yarn colours from coffee brown to creamy white. Before you buy, be sure to get to know the flock! Still undecided? There’s The Angry Triangle gift bag option too, filled with yarn, a crochet hook and link to patterns.

In the Isle of Skye, Waternish Wool sell beautiful pure dark Hebridean wool in 100g aran weight skeins.

Ascog Wool in Bute have a knitting kit available – their own grey Shetland yarn, needles and a wrist warmer pattern.

In fact, knitting kits might be one of the most ideal of gifts for knitters. The Colonsay Wool Growers include yarn from their own sheep, born and shorn at Balnahard Farm. Kit patterns include owl doorstops, pots, wrist warmers, and the unmistakable Colonsay square hat. An inspiring range of knitting kits, plus you can buy their chunky weight, plant-dyed yarn by the ball.

As Paul T puts it in his review:
“A very easy purchase process and hopefully it will be a well received pressie.. I am a firm supporter of the islands…”
